If riding your motorcycle on two lane highways
to all four corners of the USA with scenic photo
opportunities plus historical and interesting
stops is your ‘cup of tea’, then you might want
to consider riding with Two Lane Tours
Motorcycle Touring Company. Our tours are
designed to be relaxing and exciting vacations
for those participating. It is not in the
destination – it is in the journey!
Two Lane Tours does all of the preliminary work for
you – all of the planning, routing, securing of
lodging, and contacts for entry to places of interest
well in advance. All you need to do is pack your
motorcycle and join us. Two Lane Tours has taken
all of the work out of it for you so that you may just
enjoy your time traveling, sightseeing, and meeting
new people who become new friends.
We begin our tours on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday
morning; there is a briefing the evening prior. When we
state that a tour is a certain number of days, that is
exactly what we mean. We are actually ‘on tour’ that
length of time. Our gathering day is not Day 1. Our tours
are usually round trip, therefore, we not only take you
out to the furthest point, but return you to the point of
origin. We do have a few tours that are one way. Many
touring companies are one-way only. They lead you to
believe that the tour is 14 days, when it is actually 13,
plus you still need to make provision for your own
lodging, etc. to return home. Therefore, you spend the
same amount of time on the road, but with Two Lane
Tours, you have an escort and all details taken care of for
you on the return leg as well. Also, our rates are highly
competitive with other touring companies.
Two Lane Tours carries equipment to assist our guests enroute. We have a
comprehensive first aid kit, a tire inflator, tire repair kit (plug type), siphon system, and
jumper cables. All tour guides are certified in CPR and First Aid.
Q. How many miles do you ride each day?
A. We average approximately 250 miles per day; mileage depends upon what
sightseeing plans are scheduled for the day. Our tours are true vacations and are
meant to be savored, not gulped.
Q. What type of lodging will we be staying in?
A. We attempt to select lodging that is in keeping with the flavor of the tour. All of
our lodging is chosen first for cleanliness and comfort. We prefer to stay in one floor,
bike at the door motels. We do stay in some chains when necessary.
Q. What is included in your tour rates?
A. Tour rates include your lodging, entry fees, and our services in preparing the
tour, escorting the tour, and company overhead.
Q. Are there other costs in addition to tour rates?
A. Yes. You will need to bring funds for your own meals and fuel for your
motorcycle, as well as any souvenirs you may desire to purchase. Most of our tours
will have a special dinner show that is included in the tour rate.
Q. If I should have a problem with my motorcycle, does Two Lane Tours provide any
assistance?
A. Yes, we provide limited assistance. We will try to determine if it is a simple
problem, such as lack of fuel, need for a new fuse, etc. If the problem cannot be taken
care of on the road, we will attempt to contact a tow vehicle to pick up and deliver the
motorcycle and passengers to the nearest repair facility.
Q. If my motorcycle is temporarily disabled, but can be repaired in a few hours, will I
be able to rejoin the tour?
A. Yes. If you will be only a day behind the tour group, we will provide you the
itinerary and routing schedule to assist you in catching up with us at the motel for a
given night.
Q. If I live between the point of tour origination and beginning of the tour I have
chosen, would it be possible for me to meet you rather than coming to the point of origin?
A. Yes, with prior arrangement. We understand that it is unreasonable to ask
that a guest take the extra time and additional miles required to be at the briefing
meeting if they live in the direction we are heading. We would provide the information
that would be shared at the briefing meeting in advance so that you would have the
opportunity to go over it and ask any questions you may have before the tour
departs. Of course, you would not be able to meet the other tour guests until Day 1
of the tour.
Q. Should I pack a bathing suit?
A. Yes. Some of our accommodations have swimming pools and/or hot tubs. You
may wish to avail yourself of this amenity.
Q. If I have a medical condition, do I need to inform you of it?
A. Yes. We ask only to be aware of potential situations that may arise so that we
can plan to stop as needed for administration of medications, necessary foods/juices,
etc.
Q. How many motorcycles do you permit to travel in the group?
A. The maximum number of motorcycles is 10 in addition to those of two tour
guides. This is done for the purposes of safety and camaraderie of the group.
Q. Is there a minimum number of motorcycles necessary for a tour?
A. Yes. There must be a minimum of 4 motorcycles registered in addition to those
of the tour guides to enable the tour to depart.
Q. If I were coming from a long distance to tour with you and wanted to trailer my
motorcycle to the starting point, would there be a place to park my vehicle and trailer while
on tour?
A. Yes. We live close to the starting point and have acreage where your vehicle
and trailer could be stored safely in your absence.
Q. How soon should I register for a given tour?
A. As soon as possible once you know that you want to participate in a particular
tour. Our tour slots fill quickly as the departure date draws close. Your registration
and deposit will guarantee your place on the tour.
Q. Do you permit trikes to travel on your tours?
A. Yes, we welcome all brands of motorcycles and trikes, as well as sidecars and
cargo trailers. All bikes/trikes must be mechanically sound prior to departure. We do
refuse bikes with illegal/straight pipes.
Q. Are animals permitted to travel on tour?
A. No, we are unable to allow animals to accompany us as most of our motels do
not permit pets, plus pet needs can disrupt the flow of the tour for our other guests.
Q. How often do we stop for gas?
A. We stop for fuel approximately every 100 miles. This is done to accommodate
smaller motorcycles with less fuel capacity, as well as to ensure that everyone has
opportunity to use restroom facilities and stretch muscles to ensure fatigue doesn’t
set in before the day is completed.
Q. Do you use a chase vehicle?
A. At this time there are no plans to use a chase vehicle. As our guests ride their
own motorcycles, they are of all makes and models requiring different parts. In
addition, a chase vehicle would add to the cost of our tours.
Q. Do you ever ride after dark?
A. Not unless we are held up by some unforeseen emergency. Our tours are
vacations involved with sightseeing, therefore daylight is essential.
Q. Do you ride in inclement weather?
A. Unless the weather is dangerous for riding, we continue the tour. That is why
you need to bring a rainsuit and clothing for chilly weather.
Q. What do you mean when you say Rider (dbl occupancy), single markup, and
passenger in your tour rates?
A. Rider (dbl occupancy) is the driver of the motorcycle who will be sharing a motel
room with either his passenger or, if riding solo, another solo rider of the same
gender. Single markup means that the solo rider desires to have the motel room for
him/herself with no roommate. Passenger has the 2nd half of the motel cost in their
fee and will share with the rider.
